Welcome to the Europe Direct Office - Victoria Gozo
One of the most effective channels to reach out to grass roots and engage in dialogue with citizens is the network of Europe Direct Information Centres (EDICs). This network consists of 487 centres spread across the European Union. It works to reply to citizens' questions, raising awareness and stimulating an informed debate on the policies and activities of the European Union. The ED network in the Member States' is one of the European Commission's means to outreach the public thus providing free services to all grass roots.
EDICs are valuable partners for all the European Institutions and Member States. In this regard, the European Commission launched a Call for Proposals for a new generation of EDICs whereby the Gozo Business Chamber was selected and started hosting its first Information Centre of Europe Direct Network for the period 2013 - 2017. EU networks work together to give the best qualitative information to wide-ranging EU related questions to all its citizens. Work must include: the organising of events, exchanging know-how, and promoting each other.
Every EDIC should have the knowledge from other ED networks. This means that if a citizen asks for a query within one network, citizens will not be turned away but the network will be able to reach the other appropriate network or even signpost the request to EDCC. This broad network is a one-stop-shop streamed to outreach citizens’ with relevant services whilst guiding citizens to the right place. In fact the three centres will be able to provide answers to the general public related to EU and direct enquiries to the best sources of EU information matters. The three entities chosen are the:
Europe Direct Victoria - Gozo hosted by the Gozo Business Chamber
Europe Direct Valletta hosted by the General Retailers and Traders Union http://europedirectvalletta.eu/
Europe Direct Central Region hosted by the Local Councils' Association http://www.ediccentralmalta.eu/home
All three centres are capable to reach the best sources of information and contact details within all EU levels; Rights and opportunities available to all EU citizens i.e. getting residence permit or personal qualifications or disapprove of any treacherous products, funding; and even easy access to EU publications.
This extensive network provides citizens with useful information together with recommendations on implementing rights wtihin the Union. The EDIC office in Gozo will gradually increase its services to be closer to local Gozitan citizens.
